Background

.1 The District of West Vancouver has undertaken a program to rehabilitate its sanitary gravity sewer system to reduce inflow and infiltration into the sewers. This project includes the rehabilitation of residential sanitary sewer services within a single subcatchment within the District.

1.2 Scope

.1 The work of this Contract consists of the supply and installation of materials, including all labour, equipment, plant and tools related to the rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer services, all in accordance with the drawings and specifications, and for the prices tendered in the Schedule of Quantities and Prices.

.2 The components of the work are generally described as follows:

(a) The Contractor shall meet with each homeowner and a representative from the District in order to complete a consent form, itemize and catalogue any and all existing damage, itemize and catalogue all features that will require post construction restoration (damage memo), and inform the owner of the proposed schedule and description of the proposed works.

(b) Pre-video inspection of each service to confirm the appropriateness of the chosen rehabilitation method.

(c) Rehabilitation of residential sewer services from the mainline sewer to the exterior of the residences foundation. It is anticipated that a maximum of two pits are required, one at the mainline for connection to the main and one at the residence. The service material may include asbestos cement, vitrified clay tile, cast iron, or PVC pipe materials. Acceptable methods of rehabilitation include CIPP or Fold and Form type lining, or pipe bursting utilizing HDPE pipe. If the Contractor has chosen lining as his method of rehabilitation and, subsequently, it is determined that a particular service cannot be lined, the Contractor shall employ pipe bursting methods for that service. Open cut rehabilitation will not be allowed.

(d) Property restoration to the owner's satisfaction after rehabilitation works are complete.

1.3 Limits of Work Sites

.1 The work sites are limited to Municipal rights-of-way and pre-authorized private property.

The few paragraphs to the right will give you a brief overview of the project.

The photos below will let you see how the work is done. These photos are from past projects completed by the contractor

The lower left of the photo shows the 4" burster being used to burst a service lateral
Here the pipe is "Staged" alongside the house during the burst. The pipe is extremely light and causes no impact to the surroundings.
In October of 1999, pipe bursting was used to repair some of the mainlines that were on easements between houses in the pilot area.
PW Trenchless was the sub-contractor for the district then.
